AND
NUTRITION

Diagonal Road Community Children’s Centre is committed to ensuring that all children, whist in care, are encouraged to follow a nutritional diet.

NUTRITION

The Centre aims to offer food, which is low in fat, salt, sugar and provide a moderate level of fibre. Most dairy products provided are the full cream variety.

We strive to provide food with a variety in colour, taste and texture.

MENU

The menu will be planned by our qualified Chef to incorporate a variety of foods from the 5 food groups recommended by the Australian Dietary Guidelines.

The complete menu will provide at least 50% of the recommended daily intake.

HEALTHY FOODS

  • The Centre provides meals with a diverse range of foods from different cultures. Medical and religious diets are also accommodated.

  • We encourage families to become involved in the planning of the menus and welcome recipe ideas and any feedback regarding the menus.

  • Educators carry out safe food handling practices by using the Food Safe & Food Handling Training Program.

  • Educators will sit with children and role model positive eating and hygiene practices at meal times.

  • Children are encouraged to try new foods; however, their preferences are respected.

  • Drinks are provided with each meal and water is readily accessible during the day.

  • We support Mothers who need to breast feed their children at the Centre by providing a comfortable area where they can feel relaxed to feed.
